Community Micro Grants

We are piloting this new Community Micro Grants scheme, as we recognise that writing a grant application can be an unnerving experience for those who have little or no experience of doing so. We have therefore introduced this new small, pro-active community grants programme that will serve small organisations, particularly those new to funding applications, to receive dedicated support from a grants team member.

What grants are available?

Grants up to £2,000 for up to one year.

Who it is for?

Small grassroots community organisations, charities, and community interest companies (limited by guarantee only) with an annual income no greater that £25,000, and with little or no experience of making grant applications as an organisation or team.

All the grants we make must fit one or more of our charitable objects:

  • Advancement of education
  • Relief of poverty, sickness, or distress
  • Recreation with a social welfare purpose.

How To Apply

Please read our full eligibility criteria and view our process map. If you think that your group fits our full criteria, simply email an Expression of Interest to grants@harpurtrust.org.uk. Please include in the email:

  • The name of your organisation
  • The name and contact details for the lead contact
  • The type of organisation
  • What it does and a brief overview what you will be seeking funding for.

Once received, one of our grants team will be in touch to discuss your eligibility, find out a little more about what your organisation does and to arrange to meet with the group.

Dedicated support
Throughout the application process and during the lifetime of any grant, you will have one dedicated member of the grants team working with you.

Receiving a grant
If you are awarded a grant, once your organisation has accepted the grant agreement, the grant will be paid in full.

Our History

SIR WILLIAM HARPUR’S VISION

The Harpur Trust was founded over 450 years ago by Sir William Harpur, a local man born to humble beginnings who made his fortune as a merchant tailor and became Lord Mayor of London in 1561.

Today our activities are still inspired by Sir William Harpur’s vision. He understood the value of education, and he saw what needed to be addressed to support the people in his hometown of Bedford.
